Day 45. Morning. Snag Junction Provincial Park, YT

Why did the coyote cross the road?
A. To visit his slightly addled uncle Don Coyote who lived on the other side.
B. Because his cousin, Wiley (always a trouble maker, the little snot), dared him to.
C. He was following the chicken.
D. None of the above.
We don’t honestly know the answer but 2 of ‘em crossed the road in front of us at the start of yesterday’s drive.

Why did the moose cross the road? She didn’t. She wanted to but decided against it when Trish locked the brakes to avoid hitting her, and the tires squealed loudly on the pavement, poor moose thinking, “I don’t know what that big white thing is but it sounds pretty ferocious. I’m outta here!” A near miss and a good thing cuz moose make large dents. What’s plural for moose – mooses, meece? Mice is already taken.

The daily critter count included a couple more moose, one muskrat and assorted ground squirrels. It was overcast and the road was cruddy. Muskeg heaves are actually dips and potholes and there were plenty of them, slow tiring drive.

It’s a great campsite here, overlooking a lake, free firewood so had a fire going for 6 hours. There are friendly folks on both sides, from WI and CA, who chatted with us until bedtime – after bedtime, in fact.

We may make it to Fairbanks today, depending on weather, road conditions and the white line fever factor. It’ll be good to be back in the USA; many things are pricey in Canada, eh.

  1. Love the Don Coyote, but maybe you've been having too much time sitting in a vehicle thinking up jokes...Try to get out more.
